Join celebrated Latino artists, Juan Felipe Herrera and Margarita Luna Robles as they read from their work, taking turns with recent meditations, experiments and journals. Diaries and Zen notations will be the focus of Margarita's poetry, while Juan Felipe will explore new short-line work regarding deserts, survivor-lives, and Ferris Wheels.
Jazz Musicians Francis Wong (San Francisco Meet the Composer Resident), Jimmy Biala and John Carlos Perea will collaborate in the performance.
During the day, the poets will lead a writing workshop entitled “Follow the Pencil with a Volcano in Your Hand.” The workshop will encourage writers at all levels to loosen the voice, let the pencil lead and spark the mind and to find deep and artful ways to speak about nothing and everything.
Bring big paper, wide pencils and an open eye. Poems are letters of introduction into the original self.
Those interested in the workshop should contact Asian Improv aRts @ 415-908-3636 or us@locusarts.org
