Please consider making a gift to Inspira: The Power of the Spiritual, A Performance Project by Amanda Kemp. Amanda says: "It's a performance project that I am creating with jazz saxophonist Francis Wong, my betrothed violinist Michael Jamanis, and Matthew Armstead, a community organizer/storyteller/vocalist. Inspira is unlike anything I have done before, and it requires extended real time collaboration and discovery."
According to Amanda, "To me, African American spirituals are miracle music! How did people create such fierce beautiful and effective art when everyday brought pain, fear and fatigue? I love spirituals because they were created in community and reinforced our humanity even when the world said we were not quite human. But spirituals aren't just about the past, spirituals can help us connect with our personal and collective power right now. Moreover, 2015 will mark the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery!"
