Presented by Jon Jang Performances, Asian Improv aRts, and the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center. The Jon Jangtet will perform a program of music works that pay tribute to the Chinese immigrant workers of America. The centerpiece will be the world premiere of Jon Jang’s new work, Yang Sing Work Song, to celebrate the upcoming 2 nd anniversary of the 4 million dollar settlement won by the Yank Sing Restaurant workers in November 2014. This year the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music awarded a grant to Jon Jang to compose and perform Yang Sing Work Song. Other works that will be performed include, Who Built the Railroad?, and an excerpt from Portrait of Sun Yat-sen, in honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s upcoming 150th birthday anniversary in November. Performing as part of the Jangtet will be: Francis Wong, tenor saxophone; Hitomi Oba, tenor saxophone; John L. Worley Jr., trumpet; Cathleen Torres, French horn; Nick DePinna, trombone; Jon Jang, piano; Gary Brown, double bass; Deszon X. Claiborne, multiple percussion.
