ARTISTS

Francis Wong's artistic explorations are rooted, both directly and indirectly, in his work as a mentor for youth and emerging artists, artistic director, community activist, music producer, and academic lecturer. He co-founded Asian Improv aRts in 1987 with pianist Jon Jang, which has been widely recognized for its role in creating a distinctive Asian American/West Coast sound in creative music. His honors and awards include commissioning grants for music and for music and theater from the NEA; San Francisco Art Commision; California Arts Council Artist in Residence; and Meet The Composer (New Music USA) New Resident, and the Creative Work Fund (Walter and Elise Haas Fund and Hewlett Foundation), and the National Parks Service.

Chris Trinidad is a Filipino-Canadian and San Francisco Bay Area-based musician, teacher, and scholar. He completed his undergraduate training in Jazz Studies and Secondary Education, graduate study in the fields of Philosophy and Sociology of Music Education and Theological and Liturgical Studies, and doctoral work in Educational and Interdisciplinary Leadership. Inspired by all disciplines, the core purpose of his music is to explore the intersections of his identity and upbringing, while combining these into musical conversations with his current experiences and interests. He currently divides his time between creating music, developing high school students into compassionate human beings, and working on defeating his addiction to improvising excessively in the saddest of all keys ... D minor!
