Join us for two performances of Remembrance Rising: A Tribute to the World War II Comfort Women featuring composer/saxophonist Francis Wong (@fwong57), dacner and poet Lynn Huang (@lynnx) , dancer Flora Hyoin Kim Han (@floflokim), tuba perfrmer William Roper (@woltonmyo), and other accompanying musicians on May 19 - 20, 2023.
Remembrance Rising is an interdisciplinary work featuring poetry, dance, and music in dialogue with the public art piece Comfort Women Column of Strength Memorial in St. Mary’s Square in San Francisco Chinatown, built in remembrance of the girls and women that were sexually enslaved by the Imperial Japanese Army through deceit, coercion, and brutal force. This piece will be performed twice, one indoor performance at the Manilatown Heritage Center on Friday 7 - 8 pm 5/19 and one outdoor performance at the site of the Comfort Women Memorial in St. Mary’s at 2 - 3pm on Saturday 5/20. Admission is free and open to the public.
